Taiko Teacher Introduces Japanese Culture Worldwide
Yoichi Watanabe Speaks the Universal Language – Music

Yoichi Watanabe, leader of premier taiko (Japanese drum) ensemble Amanojaku, will conduct workshops this summer in the United States and Brazil, two nations in which the traditional Japanese art form is gaining mainstay popularity.

The workshops go far beyond learning how to play the drums with precision, and teach participants about Japanese culture and etiquette, as well as universal values such as teamwork, discipline, and compassion.

“Playing taiko is more than beating a drum with sticks. In order to be a good taiko drummer, one must first learn to be a good person,” says Mr. Watanabe, who has performed and taught thousands of people in over 40 nations.

Workshops in the United States (California) will be held in San Jose, Emeryville and Sonoma County from June 16 – 17. In Brazil, workshops will be held in Marilia, Curitiba, and Ibiuna from June 27 – July 20.
